Pregnancy does a lot to our bodies. Although our bodies will never truly be the same after having a child, we can still maintain a great physique. To that end, we can definitely avoid the dreaded ‘mom butt’ and it’s a lot easier than you may think!

Quick Guide
Mom Butt: What is it?
It may sound like a funny term, but the phrase is generally used to describe a flat backside without much definition or shape.
Essentially, when we are pregnant, our center of gravity and pelvis shift into an anterior pelvic tilt, where we naturally want to pull our booty in. Can you picture a pregnant with her big belly pushed forwards?
On top of that, due to extra hormones and relaxin in our body, our muscles and joints naturally become looser and, well, more relaxed!
After we have baby, we spend hours feeding baby, rocking baby, and sitting down for many hours of the day while we recover. All of this leads to atrophy, lengthening, and weakening of our glute (butt) muscles.
When you become pregnant, it’s a slippery slope towards the fate of so-called ‘mom-butt’, but it doesn’t have to be.
How to Get Rid of Mom Butt
Of course, if you’re an avid weight lifter and resume lifting weight when you’re giving the green light to lift weights postpartum, you can regain that round shape in your bottom.
We don’t lose muscle just because we became moms. We lose muscles because we lost the time to focus on it. Let’s re-prioritize and get that shapely booty back — for our health as much as our physique.
3 Best Butt Exercises to Get Rid of a Saggy Backside
There are three main exercises that will strengthen your glutes, aka your butt.
Hip Thrust
Studies have shown the hip thrust to be one of the most effective exercises for growth in our glute muscles. However, it can be intimidating to many moms. Which is why I recommend the program below for alternatives.
Deadlift
Deadlifts, especially sumo deadlifts can very effectively target the glute muscles. However, similarly to hip thrusts, they can be intimidating for many women (although they shouldn’t be!). Again, read more about the program I recommend below for women who want to build their booty but are unsure about how to perform these major compound lifts.
Squat
Squats is one of the most effective exercises for shaping and strengthening your entire body. Even better, it’s easy to perform almost anywhere. Read our guide about 11 insane benefits of squats to learn more.

Many women can feel overwhelmed by trying to implement these exercises on their own, which is why I always recommend starting with a well-developed program. Once you master the exercises and techniques, you will feel much more comfortable and see better results.

How Weak Glutes Affect Your Health
If you’re like many moms, you may fall into a rut where you give everything to your children and stop focusing on your strength and fitness.
Don’t be this mom! I know that sounds harsh, but your physical fitness and muscular health and strength are vitally important to your long-term health and well-being.
Your glute muscles are important for optimal physical performance and health. It’s really not about appearance as we grow older, it’s about longevity. And having strong muscles is one of the top ways to improve our longevity and mobility.
Final Thoughts on Our Post-Baby Bodies
While mom butt might just be the, ahem, butt of many jokes and Saturday Night Live skits, it’s actually bad for your health! Consider including the above exercises to your fitness regime or investing in the CoBa Glute System a similar tool.
